Some spreadsheets will have macros and other data manipulations that might cause problems when importing data. (eg concatenations, sums etc.)

We recommend you select all of your data, then cut and use the "paste values" into a new spreadsheet to remove all formulas.

You can also use "Inspect Workbook" in Excel (File > Info > Inspect Workbook) to delete hidden data and macros:
