Amazon - Image Syndication

How to syndicate images to Amazon

Updated over a week ago

Vendors now have the ability to submit images along with the product data they send using PDX Syndication.

Please refer to Amazon's own guidelines to obtain the most current guidelines.

Requirements for images:

  • File format should be JPG, PNG, TIFF or GIF (JPG preferred).

  • Color should be RGB or CMYK (RGB is preferred because CMYK color sometimes shows color tonal variations when displayed on the website).

  • Resolution should be at least 72 dpi.

  • The ideal size is 1000 pixels on the longest side so the images can be zoomed in on the site. The smallest your file can be is 500 pixels in either height or width

What are the images that vendors can submit?

Vendors can submit a Main image and additional 8 Product Images and in some categories a Swatch Image. - The image attributes in PDX Syndication can be found by searching for "Image".

Image Standards

Every product on Amazon needs one or more product images. The primary image of your product is the Main image. The Main image displays for a product in the search results and browse pages, and is the first image customers see on product detail pages.

Since images are very important to customers, quality matters. Choose images that are clear, easy to understand, and attractively presented.

Note: Amazon reserves the right to remove images that do not meet their image standards. You must have the necessary rights for the images you submit.

  • Images must accurately represent the product and show only the product that's for sale.

  • Main images must have a pure white background (pure white blends in with the Amazon search and product detail pages—RGB color values of 255, 255, and 255).

  • Main images must be professional photographs of the actual product. Graphics, illustrations, mockups or placeholders aren’t allowed. They must not show excluded accessories; props that might confuse the customer; text that is not part of the product; or logos, watermarks, or inset images.

  • Images must match the product title.

  • Images must have more than 72 dpi resolution.

  • Images should be 1,000 pixels or larger in either height or width. This minimum size requirement enables the zoom function on the website. Zoom has been proven to enhance sales. The smallest your file can be is 500 pixels on its longest side.

  • Images must not exceed 10,000 pixels on the longest side.

  • Replacement images should be 1000 pixels on the longest side.

  • Accepted image formats: JPEG (preferred), TIFF, PNG, or GIF (animated GIFs are not allowed)

Prohibited for Main image in all product categories

  • Images with a non-pure white background (RGB less than 255)

  • Text, logos, borders, color blocks, watermarks, or other graphics over the top of a product or in the background

  • Multiple images of the same single product

  • Product that occupies less than 85% of frame on limiting dimension of longest side

  • People in the main image/product on model with the exception of adult apparel

  • Prohibited for main image in apparel, accessories, shoes, handbags, luggage, and jewelry

  • Images with part of the product for sale cropped by a frame edge with the exception of jewelry (specifically necklaces)

  • Excessive internal or external propping that covers/surrounds product or causes confusion to product for sale

  • Models that are sitting, kneeling, leaning, or lying down (except for babies, models must be standing)

  • Images with product in packaging or brand or swing tags, except for stockings or socks

  • Visible mannequins, except for stockings or socks

Additional images

Main images should be supplemented with additional images showing different sides of a product, the product in use, or details that aren't visible on the main image. Follow the image standards listed above to maintain the quality and consistency across all your product images.

Prohibited for all images (additional and Main)

  • Images that do not match the product title

  • Images that are blurry, pixelated, or have jagged edges

  • Nudity or sexually suggestive images

  • Images of children's underwear or swimwear that are photographed on a model
